7.4 Local Environmental Services

Sutter County focuses on different health services, those that are considered Environmental health services include tips to help protect ourselves against wildfire smoke and it even includes a smoke estimator tools. The county also offers Public Health Laboratory Services in which the test for animal rabies, human diagnostic testing and work with other agencies to help monitor and limit infectious disease outbreak along with environmental public health threats. Additional resources and services include Public health nursing that focuses on prevention and immunizations, Health Education and promotion such as tobacco control, lead poisoning prevention etc. and of course Women’s Infant and Children Supplemental Food Program (WIC) that offers food coupons for food items for those that are eligible. 

I was very surprised to find they have wildfire smoke tools along with lab services that assist with both animal and human testing for prevention of disease outbreaks. 

My county does not have a Department of the environment, the nearest one will be located in San Francisco that offers a wide variety of services in public health and environmental health.
