6.7 Blog: Obesogens
California is huge when it comes to agriculture and growing crops such as fruits and vegetables. Locally there is a wide variety of lettuce, carrots, artichokes, grapefruit, Kale, and peas. Usually, around this time peach trees start to get ready for the season and we find peaches growing all over trees in backyards. I love when seasonal foods are on sale especially at farmers markets. Surprisingly some hospitals have a great variety of selection of foods available to the community. I always thought hospital foods was gross but after working at a few hospitals I realized it is not so bad.
I had heard of Obesogens before however, I was not aware of the effects it has on our bodies and obesity. Obesogens alter some metabolisms and cause weight gain. One obesogen Phthalates is found in plastic toys, wall paint, and air fresheners. It becomes troubling because kids play with these toys full of chemicals that may cause diseases.
