6.6 Blog: Use of Antibiotics
Working in the Healthcare field, were all always taught to wash our hands and make sure we are cleaning and sanitizing our work areas to prevent illnesses I was honestly shocked to read that antimicrobial wipes and soaps maybe getting us sick rather than preventing it. We are utilizing the wipes because we believe it is better or just as effective as washing our hands but it is not. Washing our hands is really the secret miracle to prevent illnesses and bacteria rather than utilizing a magical wipe that will do what soap does. The overall hospital furnishings containing antimicrobials should be increasing in the next years. this will help eliminate the amount of exposure to bacterial and help increase the overall health status of those that are utilizing them especially in a hospital setting full of bacteria.
I always believed not all antibiotics were good for us and doctors were prescribing medications to help us believe we were feeling better; placebo effect. Rather than having the antibiotics help prevent illnesses they are doing the opposite and rather getting them sick such as they do in food animal productions. Bacteria is produced so rapidly that it will withstand the treatment and will continue to be passed on to others especially farms that have animals in crowded spaces. This is concerning for humans as we are consuming the animal products and makes me believe that almost all of the food coming from them is contaminated with some type of bacteria. Although many find that utilizing antibiotics will help avoid diseases, preventative care and making sure we avoid this first hand would be the best alternative.
