Personal Care Products

I  was pleasantly surprised by the EWG website. Although I had never heard of this specific website I  always had doubts about some of the different types personal care products I  use. We usually learn how to read a food label but we are never taught to really research what we are using on our bodies and rather follow the “trends” based on what has the best advertisements and what “works”. One of the everyday personal items I decided to review was my everyday Dove sensitive skin beauty soap bar. EWG’s overall rating for the bar of soap is a “2”  the overall hazard for ingredients was low. I  was relieved and surprised that the soap in all categories was 1 or 2 which is in the green zone and only had one 4 which is in the yellow (moderate).
The second personal item I  reviewed was my everyday chapstick. EWG’s overall rating for the 3pack of chapsticks was a “5” I  was surprised to see its scare of an “8” due to its fragrance ingredient and a score of a “7” due to its ingredient propylparaben. I had no idea something to small and meant to help your lips could also cause damage all at the same time.

Based on the results for these two of my everyday items, I  will try to use a more natural lip formula rather than chapstick, I  feel that the included additional chemicals might actually make matters worse on my skin however, I  will not be changing my dove soap. It had a much smaller low hazardous score and for now, I  will continue to use. There are people especially women, that use these and many more products on an everyday basis that may not be aware of the risks these products may bring. I  feel it is important for everyone to research all new products they think of using before purchasing to assure they are not using something full of chemicals. This website should be advertised frequently to help bring awareness to this issue.
