An International plastics treaty could avert a “Silent Spring” for our seas.
We continue to see an ongoing problem all over the world we talk about pollution in the ocean of plastic. In Canada, the prime minister stated this environmental topic will be the main topic at June’s summit with leaders from all over will meet. During the World Economic Forum meeting, they mentioned there will be more plastic than fish in the sea by the year 2050, this is a big concern on global plastic waste. Of course, Canada cannot force other nations to establish rules around this but with awareness and reality, it may help. Today, about 90% of birds are found with plastics in the bodies and with a proper proposal at hand such as a plastic-free day, for example, can help build a case for something much bigger to help bring awareness to the plastic problem affecting our oceans.
